West Council
Thanks to the
efforts of our members, partners, co-workers, families and Life Members, West
Council was named "Council of the Year – 2004." West Council
has many of their own projects, along with individual projects that made the
award possible, and they also partner with other Councils and the Chapter.

and phone numbers of members in your Council, who will be glad to hear from you.
Dictionaries for 3rd & 4th grade students
Acme receipts – donated to elementary schools
Action Aids – toy drive at Christmas for this organization
Adopt a needy family – food baskets, Christmas gifts, etc.
Adopt a teacher – with needed school supplies: paper, crayons, etc.
Breast Cancer "Comfort Pillows" – used for rehab/recovery
Breast Cancer Society – help with mail outs thru the year
Books – new or gently used children’s books are always in demand
Be My Baby Project – baby items collected for needy mothers
Bernadine Center in Chester – member volunteers at this food cupboard
Bingo games at Nursing Homes – members coordinate games
Blood Drives – support by donating blood/volunteering at event
Cards - Greeting cards are made into Placemats for various events
Carousel House/Fairmount Park – members volunteer at various events
Campbell Soup Labels – donated to elementary schools
Cancer Pads for Sewing Ladies – donate old sheets/assist sewing
Cereal education labels – donated to elementary schools
Care giving – assisting seniors with Dr. appointments, shopping, etc.
Clothing Drives – collect coats/clothing for Goodwill, Shelters,etc.
Coastal Clean Up - annual event in Delaware
Christmas Projects – collecting toys/money for numerous organizations
Cell phones – 300 sets were collected VZ Domestic Abuse Program"
Christmas Stockings for Salvation - over 350 were filled in 2007
Salvation Army Teddy Bears – dressed by employees/pioneers
Clothing Drives – at offices or to local charities
Christmas Party – "Special Needs" party held in December
Daffodil Days – support by purchasing flowers/coordinating sales
Dessert Night at the Magee Rehab Hospital – desserts served to patients
Dragon Boat Races – Ken Kunz volunteers at these events
Easter Fellowship Breakfast at Carousel House –come on out!
Eyeglass Collection – 505 pairs donated in 2003 & 476 so far this year
Fort Mifflin Work Days – members perform various functions, fun!
Girl Scouts/Brownies/Boy Scouts –* assist with functions/cookie sales, etc.
Heart Pillows – made for recovering from heart/any kind of surgery
Hug-A-Bears – used by police/fire depts./etc.
Inglis House – Alice Keene Games – volunteers needed assist residents
J.B. Heinz Wildlife Reserve – participate in clean up days, etc - Kunz.
Little League Coach - * coaching/or assisting-eligible for VZ Grant
Manna - Meals for Aids patients/families – assist packaging meals
Mentoring – member involved with a Teen group in West Phila
Magazines – donated to Nursing Homes/Ronald McDonald House, etc.
Material – have excess? Donate to an art teacher or Pioneer Sewing Ladies
Nursing Homes – help w/Bingo, special events
Pen Pal Program – communicate with students via e-mail
Pillow cases for Children w/Cancer – Debbie Kelly
PTA – *volunteering with your child’s school
Placemat Projects – made from donated cards, presented at Christmas parties, etc.
Ronald Mc Donald House – prepare dinner for @ 150 guests every month
Salvation Army – Christmas Bears & stockings
Schools – volunteering your time at schools/reading/tutoring, etc.
Soda Cans – use bins in your office/ supports Burn Center in Phila
Soda Tabs – use bins in your office / supports guests at R Mc Donald House
Tree Program – Ken Kunz participates in this Phila program
Town Watch - * members participate in their neighborhoods
Toiletry Collections – hotel soaps, lotions, combs, toothbrushes are needed
Valley Forge Clean Up Days – May & Sept.
Verizon Foundation Grants – active employees who volunteer 50 hours a year can apply to the foundation for a $750 grant for that organization
Wills Eye Hospital – free eye exams – volunteers needed at hospital
Walk-A-Thons – members participate in numerous walks, Memory Walk, Butterfly Walk, Breast Cancer Walk, Light the Light, etc.
Women’s Domestic Abuse Shelters – collect toiletries, clothing, household items, children’s items, for local shelters
